Willie Wright

Willie Ralph Wright of Wynnewood, OK was born on July 22, 1928 to John Robert Wright and Bessie C. (Sloan) Wright in Wynnewood, OK and passed away November 25, 2010 at his home at the age of 82. He married Eleanor Lee Fehrman in Gainesville, TX on November 20, 1948 and they made their home in Wynnewood. Willie worked in the brick laying business for many years and most recently he owned and operated Willie Wright Construction, Inc. Willie was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elmore City. Willie was a former member of the International Rodeo Association, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the National Old Timers Rodeo Association, Living Legends and the Senior Pro Rodeo Association. He was the champion calf roper at many rodeos and won numerous belt buckles and saddles over the years. He owned, raised, and trained some of the best calf roping horses in the South Central United States. He was instrumental in teaching his sons and grandsons and many other young men how to rope. Willie set a new trend in calf roping by dismounting on the right side of the horse, which is now the norm. Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents John and Bessie Wright; Brothers Robert Eugene Wright, Jimmy Luther Wright, and J.B. Wright. He is survived by his wife Eleanor of the home; sons Gary Lynn Wright and wife Connie, of Pauls Valley; Terry Lee Wright and wife Jan, of Wynnewood; Randy Allen Wright and wife Vicky, of Oklahoma City; and daughter Cathy Dawn Christian and husband Jerry, of Ada. Willie is also survived by grandchildren Amy Wright, Yukon; Jeff Wright and wife Brandie, Noble; Coby Wright, Yukon; Christy Long, Wynnewood; Jason Wright and wife Heidi, Davis; Travis Long and wife Tammy, Ada; Jessica Wright, Monroe Washington; Leslie Reeves and husband Bobby, Ada; Emily Wright, Duvall, Washington; Preston Christian and wife Holly, Ada; Andrea Jones and husband Jerry, Oklahoma City; and Greg Homan, Oklahoma City. Great Grandchildren are Katelyn and Natalie Wright; Carson McCarty and Ashton Sullivan; Jaxon Wright; Shelbie and Brailyn Wells; Levi and Lucas Wright; Aaliyah and Mariyah Reeves; Collin Christian; and Shelby and Kerri Bradway. Surviving siblings are Fred Wright and wife Donna, Wynnewood; Pauline Carlton, New Braunfels, Texas; Audrey Rose, Wynnewood; Lou Byrne and husband Danny, Tucson, Arizona; Peggy Genn and husband Zeke, Davis; Patsy Orrick and husband Bill, Wynnewood. Funeral services for Mr. Wright will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Elmore City with Dr. Bruce McCray officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. Pall bearers are Grandsons Coby Wright, Jeff Wright, Jason Wright, Travis Long, Preston Christian, and close friend Keith Williams.
