Obituary

RJ (Jay) Meteer was born on March 6, 1938 in Corinth, Mississippi to Robert and Vera (Venderford) Meteer. RJ passed from this life on January 28, 2025 at the age of 96 years and 10 months old at the Veterans Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma.
RJ worked in the oilfield as a rotary driller prior to serving his country in the Army from 1952 until 1954 as a heavy equipment operator. While in the Army he received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and then was transferred to the Oklahoma Military District, Army Reserve.
RJ bred, trained, and raced thoroughbred horses his entire adult life. RJ loved a good card game and was a very adapt player from the age of 14 until his last visit to Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma in December of 2024. Prior to living in Garvin County RJ farmed, owned, and operated a liquor store in Beaver, Oklahoma.
A special thanks would like to be sent to the Sulphur Veterans Center for the excellent care he was provided in his last months of life. RJ loved the food, whirlpool baths, and the individualized care provided by some of the most compassionate staff employed there.
