Peggy Annett (Selby) James

Peggy James, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 17, 2026. She was born on July 18, 1942, to Charles (Carl) Selby, Sr. and Mozell Douthit Selby in Foster, Oklahoma. She attended Pernell and Doyle schools, graduating in 1960. She married Loyd Turner in December 1961. They spent 24 years together before Loyd passed away in November 1985, following a long battle with cancer. Years later, Peggy met Billy James of Levelland, Texas. They married in March 1993 and were together for the next 19 years before he passed away in August 2012. During her career, Peggy was a devoted computer teacher, teacher’s aide, business manager, office accountant, and administrator. She also attended many high school basketball games as the official bookkeeper. Peggy was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was an avid reader and enjoyed socializing with friends and family. She also loved gardening and sewing, spending countless hours making clothes and handmade gifts for those she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Gloria Henderson, Neva Shelton, Florene Selby, and her brothers, Gail Selby and Charles Selby, Jr. Survivors are her children Bryan and Karen James, Kim and Mike Gregg, Jeff and Valerie James, Mike and Jennifer Turner, Tracy and Austin Tapscott; grandchildren Nicole McBride and her husband Kasey, Caleb James, Ashley Anderson and her husband Ian, Amber Gregg, Kylie and Kenzie James, Charles Turner; great-grandchildren Caitlyn Kern, Rory McBride and James Anderson; sister-in-law Fern Selby as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 12, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm, and a memorial service will be on Friday, February 13, 10:00 am, both at the South Plains Church of Christ, 6802 Elkhart Avenue, Lubbock, Texas. A second memorial service will be held at the Wooster Funeral Home at 1601 South Chickasaw Street, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on February 14 at 1:00 pm. Graveside services at the Elmore City cemetery following the memorial are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
