Montie Louise (Hays) Hunter, 89, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025 in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was born on April 20, 1936, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to James Mount and Orene Vastie (Tompkins) Hays.
Montie grew up in Wynnewood, where she formed lifelong bonds with her siblings and community. She later married the love of her life, Ruben Hunter, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, Montie was known for her strength, her generosity, and the deep love she held for her family. She enjoyed spending time with those she loved most and created countless memories that will be treasured forever.
Montie is survived by her children:
• Michael Baird and wife Shelly of Noble, Oklahoma
• Carol Henderson of Bethany, Oklahoma
• Debbie Wade and husband Steve of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee
• Sandi Brown of Dallas, Texas
• Becky Baird of Long Prairie, Minnesota
She is also survived by her siblings:
• Sonny Hays and wife Barbara of Wynnewood, Oklahoma
• Fred Hays and wife Debbie of Wynnewood, Oklahoma
• Jo Musgrove and husband Roger of Wynnewood, Oklahoma
• Rosemary Hefley and husband Jim of Ardmore, Oklahoma
• Vicki Hays Motes of Wynnewood, Oklahoma
Montie leaves behind a large and loving family including 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 13 nieces and nephews, along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ruben Hunter, by her parents, and her brother-in-law, Roger Musgrove.
Montie's legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
