She was born in Davis, Oklahoma on April 10, 1936, to Maurice Gordon Lessly and Goldie Luella Garrett Lessly. Her recipe for turkey dressing, handed down from her mother, was the considered the best by all and could not be beat. It was a 'must have' for every Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
Melva was primarily a homemaker to raise her two sons before working several jobs in the Pauls Valley community. She enjoyed working 10 years with Sohio Petroleum Company and its employees as a technical assistant for reading natural gas charts from the field.
