Lavelle (Nelms) McAlister was born on November 26, 1939 in Maysville, Oklahoma to Nolan Bynum Nelms and Doris (McGregory) Nelms. Lavelle passed from this life on December 5, 2024 at her home in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma surrounded by those who loved her.
Lavelle was born in Maysville at home and moved to Wynnewood when she was eight years old. There, she grew up on a farm where she milked cows, picked cotton, and did other farm chores. Lavelle attended Wynnewood schools and in the 9th grade she joined the band, choosing to play the clarinet.
In the 70's she owned Neighborhood Grocery in Comanche, Oklahoma. During the 90's she began her career as a licensed tax professional. This career choice would lead her to becoming owner of Pauls Street Bookkeeping. Lavelle retired in 2017. After retirement Lavelle had many hobbies, she enjoyed gardening, her water garden, and tending to her koi pond. Lavelle will be missed by so many that loved her.
Lavelle is survived by her Sons; Carlos (Buddy) B. Herrera and Daniel (Danny) R. Herrera; Daughters, Veronica D. Pando and Christie Martin; Brother, Willard Gene Nelms; Sisters, Maxine Drake and Janice; Grandchildren, Amber, Timmy, Taylor, Wyatt, Hannah, Austin, Miranda, Aaron, Sonja, Danielle and Stephanie; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Lavelle is preceded in death by her parents; Nolan Nelms and Doris Nelms; Brother, Nolan Nelms; Sisters, Thelma Willis and Pauline Ficklin; and grandchild, Tonja Pando.
Graveside services for Lavelle will be Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. If you would like to send your condolences to the family you may do so at www.woosterfuneralhomes.com
