Obituary

Kevin Wayne Pruett was born on December 24, 1995, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Melvin Wayne Pruett and Lynn Kay (Atkins) Pruett.
From an early age, Kevin had a love for baseball. He would even take naps during the day so he could stay up late at night watching baseball games with his dad. Anytime and anywhere, there was an opportunity to play, Kevin was ready. Some of his happiest childhood memories were spent playing baseball with his siblings, often heading to the local park where they could play together for hours. His love for the game continued throughout his life.
"Kevin's love for animals was evident in his stuffed animal friends of 4–6-inch stature, live bunnies, a cherished painting of bunnies and one other favorite animal, horses.
Kevin also spent a short time playing tennis. Determined to become the best player he could be, he practiced with his father for hours each morning. His hard work and dedication paid off when he earned the title of Most Valuable Player during his junior year.
Kevin spent his early childhood in Austin, Texas, before the family moved to Oklahoma for a year, then on to Nebraska during Kevin's elementary school years, returning to Oklahoma in middle school. Kevin attended Norman High School and graduated in 2013, completing his education a year ahead of schedule while maintaining an excellent GPA. He later tried out for the Oklahoma Sooners baseball team, another reflection of his lifelong passion for the sport.
Kevin worked in construction, helping manufacture new homes and continuing a family trade, he then had a short run working in retail.
Kevin attended Calvary Baptist Church of Newcastle and later Northeast Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma.
Kevin had a deeply creative spirit. Writing poetry was one of his greatest passions, and he once began writing a novel. Finishing it proved difficult—not because he lacked ideas, but because his creative mind was constantly leading him toward another project. Kevin was also gifted with a beautiful singing voice.
Those who knew Kevin will remember a young man who could be serious and thoughtful, but whose father always seemed to know how to make him laugh. His life was filled with baseball, creativity, music, family, faith, and countless moments shared with the people closest to him. He developed a lifelong friend Brise Garrett.
In reflecting on Kevin's life and the memories of raising him, his mother shares a simple but meaningful reminder for other parents: "Teach them while they are little."
Kevin is survived by his parents; Melvin and Lynn Pruett; Siblings, James, Quentin, Gideon, Ben and Marissa Pruett all of Norman, Oklahoma; Grandmother, Peggy Atkins; and a host of other friends and family.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arlen and Connie (West) Pruett, and Howard Atkins.
