Judy Lindsey

Judith Lynn Lindsey (née Koerner), lovingly known as Judy or "Nannie," peacefully entered her eternal home on June 2, 2026, at the age of 88, while residing at The Willows Assisted Living Residence in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Born in Joliet, Illinois, in 1937 at Silver Cross Hospital, Judy graduated from Ottawa Township High School before pursuing her lifelong calling of caring for others. She earned her Registered Nursing degree in 1958 from the James Ward Thorne School of Nursing, affiliated with Northwestern University. It was during her years in Chicago that she met and fell in love with the man who would become her devoted husband and lifelong partner, James H. Lindsey, M.D., affectionately known throughout the community as "Dr. Jim." Judy and Jim were married on January 7, 1959, at the Pauls Valley Presbyterian Church. Following their wedding, they returned to Chicago while Jim completed his medical training and Judy continued her work as a registered nurse. Together they often reminisced about those early years—though money was scarce, their lives were rich with love, laughter, and adventure. They carefully saved what they could for evenings spent dancing, strolling along Michigan Avenue, and attending the occasional Chicago Bears game. In 1964, Judy and Jim made Pauls Valley their permanent home. Over the course of 59 years of marriage, they raised three children at Twin Oaks, their beloved acreage filled with towering trees, abundant wildlife, and cherished family memories. Judy was an exceptional homemaker, hostess, and entertainer whose home was always open to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. She became famous for her heart-healthy cooking, her unforgettable Thanksgiving gatherings, and especially her pumpkin pies—lovingly prepared alongside multiple generations of family members. Her legendary party mix was a staple at gatherings. There was always room for one more at Judy's table. Many who entered her home came to call her their "second mom." A woman of deep and abiding faith, Judy enthusiastically shared her love of God, family, nature, water, sports, music, and travel with everyone around her. She quietly and actively served her community through countless acts of generosity and leadership. Highlights of her service include volunteering with the Samaritans Food Pantry, serving as both a Deacon and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church, teaching as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, supporting youth athletics through numerous Panther "Team Mom" roles, and providing steadfast encouragement behind one of the community's most beloved physicians. In Pauls Valley, it was difficult to mention one without the other—they were simply known as "Judy and Jim" or "Jim and Judy." In her later years, Judy found great joy in the friendships and community she enjoyed at The Willows. Her family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care she received from the devoted staff at The Willows, the exceptional team at Valir Hospice, and her beloved, “angel” caregivers—Dr. Susan Jones, Kaci Gifford, Felicita Orellana, and especially Yoseline Orellana—whose kindness, dignity, and love surrounded Judy until her final breath. Judy is survived by her daughter, Ellen Lindsey Dougherty and her husband, Tom Dougherty, of Stamford, Connecticut, and her son, Greg Lindsey and his wife, Diana, of Edmond, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. James H. Lindsey, and her eldest son, Mark Lindsey, of Oklahoma City. "Nannie" leaves behind a treasured legacy through her eight grandchildren: Abigail Lindsey Wible and her husband Luke; John Lindsey; Thomas Dougherty; Matthew Dougherty; Sophia Lindsey Reichert and her husband Charlie; Anabelle Lindsey Park and her husband Mason; Reed Lindsey; and Elliott Lindsey. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Ellison ("Elli") Thompson, Maisie Wible, and Shepard Reichert. Judy is further survived by two special nieces, Kathy Hall and Amy Hall, and two cousins John Briel and Tom Fleming, along with countless extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, generosity, faith, and unwavering kindness. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the example she provided and in the faith she lived so beautifully every day.
