Joan married Wayne R. Jackson in 1960 in New York. Joan and Wayne were married 61 years and together raised their children: sons Daniel and Wayne and daughters Lisa and Laura.
Joan was a full time homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked in her garden tending plants and flowers as long as her health would allow. Joan took pleasure in sitting outside on her porch and enjoying her plants and watching the birds.
