Jerry Ross Brassfield, born July 14, 1947, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to Alex Ray Brassfield and Beulah Mae (Cunningtubby) Brassfield, lived a life rooted in family, hard work, simple joys, and countless memories shared with those he loved.
Jerry graduated from Davis High School in 1966. Growing up, he worked on the family farm, milking cows and helping at his father's service station. He carried that strong work ethic throughout his life. His career included carpentry, where he spent many years building homes, including the home of his daughter and son-in-law—a home that would eventually become the place where he peacefully passed away, surrounded by his daughter in Elmore City, Oklahoma. He also worked as a derrick hand in the oilfield before later working in the laundry and commissary at the Oklahoma State School in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, where he eventually retired.
Jerry had many passions and simple traditions that his family will forever remember. He was a lifelong OU Sooners fan and never missed an opportunity to play "Boomer Sooner" loud enough for the neighbors to hear whenever the Sooners scored a touchdown. He was also a devoted NASCAR fan, and one of his favorite memories was when his grandson Gavin took him to a NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway. He talked about that trip often and treasured the memory.
He loved starting the day at Happy Days Diner, where breakfast or lunch was made even better by sharing bacon with Great granddaughter Adalynn. That tradition eventually grew to include his great-grandson Grayson, creating another special memory that will live on in the family.
Jerry found joy in the simplest things. He loved walking out to the garden with a salt shaker in hand, picking a fresh tomato straight from the vine and eating it right there. He enjoyed woodworking and was always creating or building something, including a flower stand that his daughter remembers fondly. He loved taking his children out on the family boat, camping trips, and the many family reunions spent surrounded by loved ones.
Holidays were another special time for Jerry. His homemade cranberry sauce was a Thanksgiving and Christmas tradition that his family looked forward to every year and will surely miss.
Above all else, Jerry's greatest joy was his family. His children, grandchildren, son-in-laws, and especially his beloved "Bubby" were the highlights of his life and his greatest source of pride. The memories he created with them—from family outings and camping trips to breakfasts, holidays, sporting events, and ordinary days together—will remain a lasting part of his family's hearts.
After a nearly two-year battle with lung cancer, Jerry passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, hard work, traditions, and memories that will continue through the generations.
