Ina Smith

Ina Smith of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born March 7, 1906 in Blountsville, Alabama to John Henry and Katherine Elizabeth Vanzandt Graves and passed from this life on May 19, 2009 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 103 years. Ina’s family came to Garvin County, Oklahoma by train from Alabama in 1910. She was 4 years old at the time & has lived in the community all her life. She and William E. “Bill” Smith married September 3, 1924. Nine children were born from that union. Bill passed away in July, 1955. Ina was a Christian lady, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Elmore City where she has served her Lord since a teenager. Ina was affectionately known as Granny Smith to all in the community. Ina was a great homemaker. During her 103 years she experienced many changes like transportation from the horse & wagon to automobiles and doing laundry by rub-board to automatic washing machines. She often expressed her appreciation for these modern conveniences. Ina also worked as a caretaker for many years. From Ina’s first born child to the last great-great-great grandchild totaled 101 and she loved each one dearly. Ina’s Smile and winning ways will always be remembered and she will be missed. Ina was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Ina is survived by her; Three daughters: Ruth Rowland and her husband Bill of Wynnewood; Eva Forehand of Elmore City; Dorothy Carlton and her husband Rex of Elmore City. One son: Jerry Smith and his wife Sharon of Oklahoma City. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Smith; daughters, Lola Dill, Anna Lee Smith and sons: Tommy Smith, Bobby Smith & Larry Smith. Two grandschildren and one great grandchild. Also six sisters: Annie Neal, Eleanor Lynn, Dicie Lynn, Mary Catherine Mann, Viola Graves and Opie Rose and five brothers: Charlie Graves, George Graves, Eunice “Pete” Graves, Onice Graves and Noah Graves Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 in the Elmore City First Baptist Church with Elder Jerry Cottrell and Rev.
