Dr. Richard "Rick" Daryl Schuermann

Richard “Rick” D. Schuermann, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on April 28, 2026, at the age of 80. Rick battled cancer for 7 years, but never lost his positive spirit. Born on March 27, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, Rick lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to those around him. He left this world with his cherished wife, Cynthia “Cindy”, and his devoted daughter, Kirsten, by his side. Rick was the son of Warren and Anne Schuermann, whose values and wisdom he carried with him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Dale, whose memories he held close to his heart. Rick’s legacy lives on through his surviving family: his wife Cindy, who shared nearly twenty wonderful years of marriage with him; his daughter Kirsten and her husband, Tony; his brother Randy Schuermann and wife Paula; and his nieces, Stacey Tracy with her husband Doug, and Julia Melhauser with her husband Jeff. Rick grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where, as a teenager, he worked at his father’s service stations. Rick graduated from Normandy High School in 1964. He was a baseball and basketball letterman and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Rick’s passion for learning led him to Oklahoma City University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, followed by his studies at UMKC dental school. This path laid the foundation for a career dedicated to the care and well-being of others. As a dentist, Rick began in private practice in Oklahoma City, before finding his true calling in 1982 at the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center, where he provided dental care to residents for nearly three decades. His commitment to his profession extended beyond his practice as he also shared his knowledge with students at the University of Oklahoma dental school. Rick was a proud member of the American Dental Association and attended Crossroads Church, where he found community and spiritual growth. Rick’s life was enriched by his many passions and hobbies. He found joy boating around Lake Eufaula, where he spent countless days. A lover of music, especially the blues, Rick could often be heard humming a familiar tune. He loved classic cars, cruise vacations, and an evening Manhattan. Although, time spent with family was his greatest treasure. A man who never met a stranger, Rick had a gift for connecting with others. He possessed the ability to turn a casual encounter into a new friendship, leaving people with a smile and a new piece of trivia—whether on history, sports, politics, or current events. May we find comfort in our memories of Rick, a man whose life was a testament to kindness, joy, and an unwavering zest for life. His love and laughter will continue to echo in the lives of those he touched.
