Obituary

Clifford "Joe Don" Looney was born on July 15, 1943, in Davis, Oklahoma, to James and Elsie (Long) Looney. He passed from this life on July 18, 2026, in Davis, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years and 3 days. Joe Don attended school in Davis and began serving his hometown as both a Davis police officer and firefighter. He later proudly served his country in the United States Army and also spent a short time in the United States Marine Corps. On April 16, 1971, Joe Don married the love of his life, Carolyn Kilcrease. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, hard work, and family while raising their daughter, Sherry, and their son, Chris. Joe Don spent many years working in the oilfield and construction industries. He was known for his remarkable knowledge of heavy equipment and oil rigs—there wasn't a piece of machinery he couldn't understand or repair. One of his favorite stories was telling how he drilled the dynamite holes through the Arbuckle Mountains during the construction of Interstate 35, a project he was proud to have been a part of. An avid hunter and fisherman throughout much of his life, Joe Don loved the outdoors. When his health no longer allowed him to hunt, he found just as much enjoyment driving the back roads, counting deer and reporting back to family with excitement about how many he had seen that day. One of Joe Don's greatest passions was searching for "treasures." Whether browsing flea markets, pawn shops, or especially the Dog Trade in Sulphur, he was always on the hunt for something special. Along the way, he made countless friends and rarely came home empty-handed, often bringing little trinkets for Carolyn, his children, and his grandchildren. To him, giving was one of the greatest expressions of love. Above all else, Joe Don was devoted to his family. There was nothing he wouldn't do for those he loved. His strength, generosity, colorful stories, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by those who were blessed to know him. Joe Don is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Carolyn Looney; his son, Chris Looney and wife, Christy, of Elmore City, his step daughter, Sherry (McCarty) Griffin; his grandson, Rowdy Looney and wife, Kimberlin, of Elmore City; his granddaughter, Albyrni Looney and wife, Sharla, of Ardmore; his great-grandchildren, Khloi Crawford, Harley McCoy, Lloyd Taylor, and Claiten Duncan; his sister, Betty Noland of Weatherford; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elsie Looney; his granddaughter, Miranda Looney McCoy; his great-grandson, Harlen Looney; his son-in-law, Jim Griffin; his brother, Lloyd Looney; and his sisters, Pat Frank, Ann Wollard, Jimmie Ruth Naylor, and Ruby Siler. The family will always remember Joe Don's stories, his laughter, his generosity, and his unconditional love. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will never be forgotten.
