William Samuel Barnes

William Samuel Barnes of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born to Bob and Flora (Black) Barnes on October 19, 1926 in Marlow, Oklahoma and passed from this life on January 23, 2015 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years. William grew up and attended school in Marlow, Oklahoma. Mr. Barnes joined the United States Army at an early age. He served his country for 20 years, 5 months and 28 days. William was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. He fought in World War II, Vietnam and served in Korea. William and his wife Charlene had a wonderful life and lots of love between them. Together they were able to travel to many places and enjoyed raising their children. They also owned and operated a café and motels. Mr. Barnes was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elmore City. He helped build a youth center in Marlow for the East Side Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed going to the Elmore City Community Center and loved building things, especially his own home. Mr. Barnes is survived by: 3 sons: William S. Barnes, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado Lonnie Paul Stout of Elmore City, Oklahoma Danny Lee Robertson of California 4 Daughters: Connie Louise Higgins of California Patricia Lynn Weber of Gilbert, Arizona JoAnn Robertson of Arizona Georgia Smythe of Edmond, Oklahoma 2 brothers: Wayne Barnes of California Joe Barnes of Marlow, Oklahoma 1 sister: Nona Nix of Arizona Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by: His wife: Charlene Barnes Parents: Bob and Flora Barnes Brothers: Robert Barnes, and Ernest Barnes Sisters: Barbara Hall, Gladys Stallings and Mildred Lamberth Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the Elmore City Cemetery.
