Wendell Thomas Whaley

Longtime Duncan resident Wendell Whaley died on March 30, 2016 at the Golden Oaks Retirement Village in Enid. Wendell was born on December 21, 1926 near Velma, the youngest of Luke and Emma Whaley’s ten children. He graduated from Bray High School in 1946 and spent his life working as a car, truck and tractor mechanic, as a truck driver, a roustabout and as a farmer and cattleman at his farm near Bray. He was preceded in death by his parents and all nine of his siblings: his brothers Weldon Whaley, John Whaley, Richard Whaley, Douglas Whaley and Dean Whaley, and by his sisters Hazel O’Bryant, Clara Smith, Vivian Sims and Ojuania Pollard. He is survived by One sister-in-law, Doris Gatlin, of Mobeetie, Texas and by his son, William Whaley and wife Saphronia, of Newcastle, and by three grandchildren: Michael Whaley and wife Sandra, of Norman, Charissa Spruill and husband Jeff, of Yukon, and Jonathan Whaley and wife Alice, of Yukon. Wendell had seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six stepchildren and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Velma church of Christ with Bill Whaley and Dean Whaley, jr officiating. Internment will be in Elmore City. Arrangements by Wooster Funeral Home of Elmore City.
