Lewis E. Dotson

Lewis E. Dotson a lifetime resident of Garvin County known to many as “their barber” was born to Archie Franklin and Velma Shanks Dotson December 14, 1935. He completed his earthly journey on July 3.2022. Lewis attended grade school at Satterwhite and entered Elmore City Schools in the ninth grade, graduating in 1954. He married Alma Woolsey July 1956. He was in the Oklahoma National Guard. They had two daughters, Laura and Lisa. For many years he worked with his brother, Leroy in the auto body shop. Later he became a barber where he operated the Wynnewood Barber Shop located in the Eskridge Hotel. He taught the 5th and 6th grade boys Sunday School Class and enjoyed singing in the choir at the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood. He enjoyed fishing trips with Gerald Cox and Ron Jared. Lewis married Ella Wayne Kennedy in November 1985. They made their home in Elmore City. He was the substitute mail carrier for several years. His friends would give him a hard time when the barber shop was closed because he was carrying the mail. He retired in 2004. He loved gardening. He was an avid Sooners and Thunder fan. Lewis and Ellawayne enjoyed going to Branson and listening to music as well as taking in the beautiful scenery along the way. Lewis was extremely friendly. He enjoyed sitting on the street corner people watching and making new friends in Branson. He was a gentleman and a “gentle” man. Lewis is survived by: Wife – Ella Wayne Dotson 2 daughters – Laura Doss (husband Garry) and Lisa Webster Step-sons – Max Kennedy, Rex Kennedy (wife Cheryl), and Mitch Kennedy (wife Jaye) Step-daughter – Debbie Simmons (husband Steve) Step-daughter-in-law – Sherry Kennedy Step-sister – Ruth Ferris Half-sister – Portia Roady Dennis 18 grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren also a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding Lewis in death are mother, Velma Shanks Rinehart, dad, Archie Franklin Dotson, step-mom Polly McKinley, sister ,Jociel Smith, brother, Leroy Dotson, sister-in-law Maxine Dotson, brother-in-law, Jim Roady and step-son Bruce Kennedy. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 08 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Duncan officiating at the First Baptist Church in Elmore City.
