Hazel Blundell

March 29, 1923 - March 7, 2022

Hazel Mae Blundell of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma was born to Abner and Suzie (Rich) Winn on March 29, 1923, in Royal, Oklahoma and passed from this life on March 7, 2022, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 98 years. Hazel grew up in the “Dust Bowl” and Great Depression era. She married Layton A. Blundell on April 16, 1944, in Marlow, Oklahoma. She was a stay-at-home mom until her son, Larry graduated from high school. She then went to work for Kellwood in Pauls Valley for 20 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and was a member of Eastern Star. Hazel took great pride in her home and yard. She kept her house cleaned and mowed her own yard well into her early 90’s. Larry wanted to buy her a key start riding mower for her 89th birthday, but she sternly told him she was perfectly capable of pulling a cable to start a mower and push it. The highlights of Hazel’s life included a trip to California with her sister Sybil to work in the aircraft industry during WW II. Hazel learned how to weld and was a “Rosey the Riveter” She enjoyed watching her son, grandson, and great-grandchildren play sports. She was a hard worker and very frugal in her life. However, if there was something her son Larry needed, or something her grandson wanted (like a $100.00 pair of Jordan athletic shoes when he was 6 years old) – well that was different. Larry stated, “You never got me $100.00 shoes”, and she replied, “when you have grandkids, you will understand.” Man, was she a fortune teller on that one! The most important thing she taught Larry about life was “no matter what happens to you in life, just put one foot in front of the other and go forward.” “It is what it is, so just deal with it.” Hazel strived to be a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, employee and friend. She did all of those in her lifetime. Mrs. Blundell is survived by: Son: Larry Allen Blundell and his wife Jennie of Yukon, Oklahoma Grandson: Jeffrey Allen Blundell and his wife Megan of Washington, Oklahoma 2 great-grandchildren: Baylor Paige Blundell (age 13) and Boston Allen Blundell (age 11) and their mother, Whitney Blundell Mrs. Blundell was preceded in death by: Her husband: Layton A. Blundell on July 22, 1997 Parents: Abner and Suzie Winn 4 brothers: Abner, Pat, Dick, and Ray 5 sisters: Genevieve, Sybil, Wyoma, Peggy Lou and Norma Sue (twin sisters) Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2022 at the Marlow Cemetery in Marlow, Oklahoma.
