Elmer A. "Sonny" Terrell

Mar 07, 1935 - Sept 14, 2011 Elmer “Sonny” Terrell was born in Foster Oklahoma to Elmer and Lola Terrell. He had a true “servants” heart. We know that our Lord met him at the gates with, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” His passing is a bittersweet blessing. We will miss our dad, husband, grandpa (okiepa), brother, friend, and look forward to meeting him at Heaven’s gate one day. Sonny fell in love and married his high school sweetheart, Etta “Jane” McCortney. They shared a wonderful 57 years of matrimony. Sonny was a very active member at Bible Baptist Church of Chickasha, OK. He loved to minister to the older (and wiser) members of the church by planning special events and trips. Throughout his life he served his church and community in numerous capacities. (ie. Music Director, Youth Director, Deacon, Bus Driver, etc) He served the Lord with gladness. Sonny graduated from Pernell High School in Pernell, Oklahoma in 1953. He worked for 40 years in sales and as a district manager in the oil & gas industry. He retired from Petrolite Corporation (now known as Baker Hughes) in 1993. Not entirely ready for retirement, he became co-owner of a tire business in Rush Springs, OK for 5 years. Sonny served as a Board Member on the Oklahoma Lupus Association Board of Directors for 6 years. Sonny and Jane traveled as much as possible as members of the Buffalo Sam’s RV Club. They also spent winters in Rockport, TX to enjoy south Texas sports with their Rockport grandson. Sonny is survived by his wife, Etta “Jane“ Terrell and their three children, Son - Tony/Mary Terrell of Temple, TX, Son - Rocky Terrell of Chickasha, OK and Daughter - Darla/Mike Williams of Rockport, TX They have two grandsons, Kenneth Gray, of Vista, CA and Stratton Williams of Rockport, TX . Sonny is also survived by his brother, Delbert/Betty Terrell of Springfield, MO, his sister, Sharon/Harvey Dean of Pittsburg, KS, and his sister-in-law, Lavonda Brown of Chickasha, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held at 1pm on Monday (19 Sept) at Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha, OK. Graveside service will immediately follow at Foster Cemetery, Foster, OK.
