Ametha Carr

August 31, 1923 - May 28, 2018

Ametha Kennedy Carr was born in Elmore City, OK on August 31, 1923 to S.M. (Chock) and Loda Bradley Kennedy. She was the only daughter among four sons. Ametha died peacefully on October 19, 2017 in Truth or Consequences, NM. During her lifetime, Ametha was co-owner/operator of Ted’s Service Station in Hurley, NM. She was a house mother for two sororities at NMSU and a house parent at Lee Moore Children’s Home in El Paso, TX. Her favorite job and proudest achievement was serving as the mayor of Hurley, NM in the early seventies. Ametha’s love for her grandchildren and love of travel were easily combined. Her frequent visits took her to California, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Hawaii and Japan. Ametha was an excellent cook. Her friends described her as having seasoning in her fingertips! She was a member of the Church of Christ and Eastern Star, a dancer, traveler, avid news fan, voter, crocheter, noodle-maker, mixer of hand cream, and a forever friend. She is survived by two daughters—Johnelle Baker of T or C, NM and Junelea Alexander of Montclair, VA; son-in-law Larry Alexander; four grandchildren--Emmitt Baker (Gettysburg, PA), Kristan Alexander (Paris, TX), Geoffrey Alexander (Kaneohe, HI), Lauren Benback (Crowley, TX); six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brothers Joe Kennedy of Lindsay, OK and Ira Eugene Kennedy of Lawton, OK; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elmore City Cemetery in Elmore City, OK.
