Alice of Lawton, Ok died on Wednesday September 16th. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Ok. Alice was born in Wynnewood Aug. 2, 1930 to Ersel and Annie Barrett Meek. She was the youngest of 4 children. She grew up in Wynnewood and graduated from Wynnewood High School with the class of 1948. She played basketball and was a cheer leader. Alice married Fred Lynn Porter in 1949 and they had 3 children: Patricia, Lynn, and Fred Lee. Fred Lynn preceded her in death in 1956. She married Ken Armstrong of Ardmore in 1958. They made their home in Lawton for over 50 years. Ken preceded her in death in 2001. Alice was a homemaker and started bowling in 1963. She became a long time employee of Thunderbird Lanes and served as the secretary of several leagues. She also served as the city bowling association secretary for several years. After bowling right handed for 30 years she injured right hand. After not bowling for a year she got an old, light weight ball and had it drilled for her left hand. Practice and patience and the love of the sport helped her to bowl again. Alice also worked for a number of years for Lawton ISD driving a school bus. She retired in 1999. Alice also loved to play Bridge and played at the Senior Center in Lawton. She is survived by her 3 children: Patricia Stuart and husband Fred of Norman, Lynn Porter of Marshall, Texas and Fred Lee Porter and wife Vickie of Denton, Texas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Alice was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be Monday Sept. 21, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Ok. Rev. Steve Harshaw will be officiating. Services are being handled by Wooster Funeral Home, Pauls Valley Oklahoma.
