Melva Joyce Lessly Porter, 88, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma died Monday, May 13, 2024. Services for Mrs. Porter will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the Elmore City First Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Reed officiating. Visitation is pending. She was born in Davis, Oklahoma on April 10, 1936, to Maurice Gordon Lessly and Goldie Luella Garrett Lessly. She attended Davis schools, graduated Davis High School in 1954, and cherished going to many class reunions to reconnect with classmates. She married James Leroy Porter on April 15, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Davis, Oklahoma. They had 2 boys, Dennis Ray Porter from Pauls Valley and David Alan Porter, 64, from Bellville, Texas. Melva had a servant’s heart and was driven to attend to the needs of others. She was particularly proud to have family reunited in her home during holidays and cook the holiday meal. Her recipe for turkey dressing, handed down from her mother, was the considered the best by all and could not be beat. It was a ‘must have’ for every Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Melva was primarily a homemaker to raise her two sons before working several jobs in the Pauls Valley community. She enjoyed working 10 years with Sohio Petroleum Company and its employees as a technical assistant for reading natural gas charts from the field. She relished her 29 years working for Dennis, where she proudly served as receptionist and secretary for Porter Heat & Air. Melva is survived by her Son; David Alan Porter and wife Susan of Bellville, Texas, Daughter-in-law; Melanie Porter of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; Grandchildren; Amanda Renee’ Graham and husband Jacob of Bellville, Texas, Adam David Porter of Bellville, Texas, James Ray Porter and wife Megan of Syracuse, Utah, Shannon Diane Jones and husband Cody of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Great-grandchildren; Graye Lynn Graham, Gentry Faith Graham, Caleb James Porter, Cameron Graham Porter, Elizabeth Ann Porter, and Callen Ray Jones. Melva is preceded in death by her husband; James Leroy Porter, Parents; Maurice Gordon Lessly and Goldie Luella (Garrett) Lessly, Son; Dennis Ray Porter, Brother; Roy Roger Lessly, and Sister; Gerona Faye Lessly.
