Maxine Buckner

Maxine Buckner went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday April 12, 2025, at Norman Regional Health Plex, in Norman Oklahoma at the age of 82 years old. Maxine, the daughter of Andrew L. Buckner and Margie Pearl Buckner was born on November 12, 1942, in Paul’s Valley Oklahoma. Maxine attended Dunbar Schools and eventually retired from Paul’s Valley State School after 32 years of service. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years, later became affiliated with No Greater Love Church of God in Christ of Paul’s Valley. Maxine was a Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, Mother of the Church, and Bible Study Teacher. Her passion was the love for people, ministering the word of God and being an example of living the word of God. Maxine believed in setting an example for others to honor God and live a righteous life before mankind that God will get the glory. One of the greatest joys in Maxine’s life was being a loving mother to her son, loving & caring for others, and raising her 5 sisters after the passing of their mother, she cherished the special bond she had with her older sister Minnie Pearl Stevenson. Maxine’s love spread throughout her entire family, church families, community, friends, and everyday life. A smile and a kind word she always had to give. Maxine, as a loving mother, sister, friend, and person, was also known for her firm bluntness and protection over those she loved dearly, which meant that she would keep you in check. She enjoyed laughter, bible study, prayer, talking about the lord, outreach ministries, singing and praising the lord. She also enjoyed cooking, family dinners, caregiving, loving, making sure you were happy and not lacking anything at her own expense, making sure it was the best. Spending time in church and with church family was a privilege and a joy which strengthen her faith walk and trust in God. She was preceded in death by her Parents: Andrew and Margie Buckner; Brothers: Bennie Price, Andrew Buckner Jr. Glen Carl Buckner; Sisters: Jean Buckner, Gwen Buckner-Lewis, Bridgett Brewer. Maxine is survived by her son: Marcus D. Dawson, and daughter-in-law, Lupe Dawson, of OKC; Sister/Daughter: Terri Martin and brother-in-law Steven Martin; Sisters: Minnie Pearl Stevenson, Donna Kay Whitlow; Aunt: Betty Broussard; Dear Cousin/Daughter: Mary Pierce; Nina Joy Pace Dear Best Friend: Teresa Lightsey Grandchildren; Matthew, Tesia, Christopher, Eric and Ridger. Host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, church families and friends. The service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 1:00 P.M., at Wooster Funeral Home, in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. Visitation for Maxine will be Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
