Mary Maurine Berry

Mary Maurine Berry, beloved mother of Penny Berry and Tony Berry, passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior while surrounded by her family on August 20, 2012 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years. She was born on October 30, 1933 to Ed & Florence Nightengale (Cook) Peters in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Maurine’s childhood was spent with her seven brothers and twin sister in Shawnee where she graduated from Shawnee High School in 1951. On November 16, 1951 Maurine married Montell “Monty” Berry and they moved to Pauls Valley in 1952. She was a nanny to Dr. John & Barbara Moore’s children. After Maurine’s children were born she operated a day care center in her home. Later she & Monty worked together as co-owners of a carpet store. Following Montell’s death in 1991, Maurine became a health caregiver in private homes in Pauls Valley, where she was respected by many families. Maurine was very active in her church, the First Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery for 24 years and the bus ministry for 17 years. She enjoyed her Sunday school class and the women there were very special to her. Maurine adored her family. She loved family reunions, birthday parties and ball games. It was easy to see that her greatest joy and happiness was as a mother and grandmother. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed a large circle of friends. If Maurine was your friend, you knew you had a friend for life. She is a mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend to be remembered.
