Janie Mae DeArman

Janie Mae (Rickert) DeArman was born on April 19, 1944 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Clarence Rickert and Bertha Mae (Riggs) Rickert. Janie passed from this life on February 5, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 79. Janie graduated from Elmore City High School in 1962 and then went on to Northwestern Oklahoma State University to obtain her Bachelor’s and East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma for her Master’s degree. Janie married Dennis Gene DeArman on July 8, 1983 in Byars, Oklahoma and they were married until his passing in 2016. Janie was a teacher who taught all grades in Byars, Oklahoma for 42 years and eventually retired as the Special Education Teacher. Janie was also proud of her accomplishments as the Byars music teacher and her part in organizing the Christmas program every year. Janie loved taking care of her grandchildren mostly. She loved singing with her daughter Charlane at the music at the Barn and Dance in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, and the Elmore City and Pauls Valley Senior Citizens Center. She also loved playing music with her son James and singing to him. They played until she was no longer able to. One of the last things he got to do for his mother was take his guitar to the hospital and play until she fell asleep and even got to play a song called “Unchain Melody” just before she passed away. He says that Janie was his biggest fan. Growing up she attended the old Pentecostal Church in Paoli, Oklahoma. Janie loved to crochet, do ceramics, make oil paintings, having a big garden, and she loved John Wayne and any old-time country and western music. Janie is survived by her Daughters Charlane Rowan and husband Nick of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Heaven Escamilla and husband Will of New York; Sons, Dr. James Hein and wife Dr. Regina Hein of Noble, Oklahoma, Tony Riggs of Norman, Oklahoma; Stepdaughters, Tracy Gibson and husband James of Norman, Oklahoma, Angie Bertis of Norman, Oklahoma, Nicki Goforth and husband Leon of Cushing, Oklahoma; Brother, Timothy Ray Rickert and Shirl of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; Sisters, Jeanie Newell of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Janis Spencer and husband Neal of Chickasha, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and a host of other family who loved her dearly. Janie is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Gene DeArman; Parents, Clarence Rickert and Bertha Mae (Riggs) Rickert; Brothers, Clarence Bubby Rickert and William “Bill” Rickert Sr. Services for Janie will be on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma with interment to follow at Paoli Cemetery. Visitation will be open to the public on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 4:30 PM and the family will welcome friends from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM on Thursday as well. After the interment on Friday the family is welcoming those who would like to come to a lunch at Compassion Church at 1:00 PM.
