Esther Roady

Esther Roady, 96, of Katie, a small community southeast of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born on December 7, 1914, and left to be with the Lord on February 5, 2011. She died peacefully at home. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, “Nannie” was always there for each of us. Born in Wayne, Oklahoma to Robert and Claudia K. Williams, she and her sister Jaunita and three brothers, Ralph, Ray, and J.C. lived in several places before moving to Katie where she met the love of her life, Roy Roady. They were married at an early age, their love story of over 70 years left a legacy for all who knew them. She was a homemaker who lived through many decades of change. However, one thing that never changed was her love for her family, church, home, and cooking. She was known for her fried chicken and banquet size meals, which she served every Sunday to family and friends. If one person had a favorite dish, she made it. She will be fondly remembered for her love of celebrating birthdays. She made birthday cakes for her daughters, grandchildren and even for her great-grandchildren, often baking two cakes, one to decorate and one to take home. Living with Roy was an adventure. They traveled all over the United States with their family in a car always wanting to see everything along the way. She never liked fish, but always cooked the best catfish and crappie because her family loved to fish. As a member of Katie Missionary Baptist Church, she was faithful in attendance until the past few years when her health began to decline. She loved her church. Esther is survived by: Daughters: Maxine Dale and husband George and Doris Shirley of Elmore City, OK Grandchildren: Shelley Shirley, Ginger Higginbotham, Kim Wright, and Pam Deering Six Great-Grandchildren, Eight Great-Great-Grandchildren, and Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins Mrs. Roady was preceded in death by her husband Roy, one sister Jaunita, three brothers Ralph, Ray, and J.C.; one son-in-law, Carl. We will always remember her for her self-less love and the memories she created that we all hold in our hearts. The family expresses their deepest appreciation for the loving caregivers Ann, Vickie, and Amy. Also, a special thanks to Valley Hospice. Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Roady will be held Tuesday,February 8,2011 at 2 p.m. in the Katie Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Bruc McCray officiating. Interment will be in Katie Cemetery.
